Orders
Limit, market, stop market, stop limit and trailing stop orders in paper trading, time in force, post-only and reduce-only, take profit and stop loss, dragging order lines and trading from the chart menu.
Place orders in the order entry (Trade, F4), from the chart menu or from a risk/reward box. Fills, fees and margin: Paper trading.
Order types
The order entry has three tabs: Limit, Market and Conditional. Under Conditional you choose Stop market, Stop limit or Trailing stop.
| Type | What it does |
|---|---|
| Limit | Buys at your price or lower, sells at your price or higher. The part that can fill right away fills as taker, the rest rests in the book as maker. The price must be within ±10 % of the mark price. |
| Market | Fills right away against the market, at most 5 % away from the current price. |
| Stop market | Waits until the Trigger price is reached, then sends a market order. |
| Stop limit | Waits until the trigger is reached, then places a limit order at your Price. |
| Trailing stop | Closes an open position with a market order. The stop follows the best price at the Distance you set; with an optional Activation price it only starts trailing once that price is reached. |
For stop orders, Last next to the trigger field fills in the current price, and the select next to it chooses whether the Last or the Mark price triggers the order. Whether a stop buys above or sells below the market follows from where the trigger lies when you send it, so the trigger must differ from the current price. Conditional orders reserve no margin until they trigger.
A sell trailing stop triggers at the highest price since activation minus the distance, a buy trailing stop at the lowest price plus the distance. Trailing stops are always reduce-only.
Quantity and price
- Quantity is in the coin of the market (for example BTC). The slider below sets a share of the largest quantity your available balance allows: 0, 25, 50, 75 or 100 %. Quantities are rounded down to the market's quantity step, and each market has a minimum quantity and a minimum order value.
- Price is in USDT. Clicking a level in the order book puts its price into the order form (and switches Market to Limit).
- The preview shows, for long and short, the Cost (margin plus the estimated taker fee), the Max quantity and the Est. liq. price. With take profit or stop loss filled in, At take profit and At stop loss show the expected result in USDT and in % – after fees, without slippage.
Time in force and options
- Time in force: GTC (good till cancelled), IOC (immediate or cancel) and FOK (fill or kill) for limit orders; market orders use IOC or FOK. A stop limit order rests as GTC once it is triggered.
- Post-only (limit orders with GTC): only adds liquidity; the order is cancelled if it would fill immediately.
- Reduce-only: the order can only reduce an open position – it is rejected without a position or in the same direction as the position.
Take profit and stop loss
On a new order: tick TP/SL, enter Take profit and / or Stop loss, and choose Trigger by Last or Mark. They are attached to the position the order opens or increases, and can't be used on reduce-only orders. The levels must lie on the right side of the expected entry price.
On an open position: in the Positions tab, click the TP / SL cell, enter the prices, choose Last or Mark, and Save. The levels must lie on the right side of the current price – for a long, take profit above it and stop loss below it.
When take profit or stop loss triggers, the whole position is closed with a market order (reduce-only, taker fee).
Sending an order
Paper · Long and Paper · Short send the order. With Confirm large orders ticked (the default), ChartRider asks first when an order uses more than half of your available balance or a leverage of 20x or more; Don't ask again turns this off. Sounds plays a sound on fills.
A toast confirms each order and each fill. Some checks happen only when the order is executed after the delay – for example Not enough available balance at execution time, Immediate-or-cancel: unfilled quantity cancelled or No liquidity within the price protection range; these appear as Order rejected or Order cancelled.
Limits: at most 100 open orders per account and a few orders per second. While market data is delayed, no orders are accepted.
Close a position
In the Positions tab, Market closes the whole position at the market price; Limit places a closing limit order, prefilled with the mark price – change it and click Place. To close part of a position, send an order in the opposite direction with a smaller quantity, with Reduce-only if it must not open a new position.
Move orders on the chart
On a desktop, take profit, stop loss, resting limit orders and untriggered stop orders appear as lines with a label. Drag the grip at the left of the label to move the level; dragging the line itself pans the chart as usual. When you let go, the new price (rounded to the tick size) is applied right away, without a confirmation.
- An order's own take profit and stop loss (TP (order), SL (order)) can be dragged as well.
- Of a stop limit order, both the trigger and the limit price can be dragged until it triggers; after that it is a resting limit order.
- Trailing stops, the entry, Liq. price and Break even can't be dragged.
- A resting limit order that you move loses its place in the queue. If the new price would fill immediately, the change is refused – use a market order instead.
Trade from the chart menu
Right-click the chart at a price to open the chart menu. Its Trade group uses the price you clicked:
- Long here / Short here open the trading panel with an order at that price: a limit order on the favourable side of the market (below the price for a long, above for a short), otherwise a stop market order with that trigger. If a quantity is already entered in the order panel, the order is placed right away; otherwise it is only filled in.
- Take profit / Stop loss set that level on your open position right away. The menu shows the expected result first; the entries are greyed out when there is no position or the price is on the wrong side.
With open orders that can carry TP/SL, an Orders group lists them; each has Take profit here, Stop loss here and Remove TP/SL.
Fill in an order from a risk/reward box
Draw → R/R long or R/R short places a risk/reward box with a 2 : 1 ratio at the cursor; drag entry, stop and target to your levels (see Drawing tools). Right-click the box and choose Fill in order: the side, the entry price, the take profit and the stop loss go into the order entry, following the same rules as Long here / Short here.
Order status
Orders show one of these states: Pending (waiting for the order delay), Untriggered, Open, Partially filled, Filled, Cancelled or Rejected. Order history shows the reason for cancelled and rejected orders.
Paper trading uses play money only; nothing here is investment advice.
