Swing High/Low (SHL)

Numbers the swing highs above and the swing lows below the selected candle, stepping outward to ever higher highs and lower lows.

Updated ·Markdown

What you see

Numbers above and below candles, drawn relative to the candle under the crosshair – or to the latest candle when the crosshair is not on the chart:

  • Numbers in High Color above swing highs: 1 is the most recent swing high above that candle's high, 2 the next older swing high that is higher still, and so on.
  • Numbers in Low Color below swing lows: 1 is the most recent swing low below the candle's low, 2 the next older one that is lower still, and so on.

Move the crosshair and the numbering follows.

How it works

A swing high is a candle whose high is strictly higher than the highs of the Pivot Point Range candles before it and at least as high as the highs of the Pivot Point Range candles after it. A swing low is the mirror case with lows.

Starting at the selected candle and going back in time, the indicator keeps only swing highs above that candle's high and numbers each one that is higher than the previous one it kept. The result is a staircase of ever higher highs above the candle and ever lower lows below it.

A swing needs Pivot Point Range candles after it, so the newest swings appear only once those candles exist. When you select a past candle, only swings that were already confirmed at that candle are used.

How to read it

The numbered highs are the levels price has to take out, one after another, to keep rising; the numbered lows the levels it has to break to keep falling. In liquidity terms they show where stops are likely to rest beyond the current price, with 1 the nearest. Hover over a candle to see which levels were still ahead of price at that moment.

Using it in strategies

Swing High/Low is a visual tool: it has no outputs for the Trade Setup or for use indicator in WickScript.

Settings

Open the settings with the slider icon next to the indicator (Indicators, F3). Numeric settings can be swept as Step 1 / Step 2 parameters when you run a strategy.
