# Tick Trail

> Draws a thin line through the price of every trade, in time order, over the candles.

Updated: 2026-10-24T23:15:41.000Z · https://chartrider.com/docs/indicators/tick-trail/

## What you see
A thin line that connects the price of each trade at its exact time, so you can see the path price took inside a candle – not only its open, high, low and close. Where no trade arrived for more than five seconds, the line breaks.

## Where the trades come from
The trail is built from the chart's live trade feed. It starts empty when the chart loads, grows while the chart stays open and is cleared when you switch the symbol. It is most useful on low timeframes, to watch the current market move trade by trade.

## Display limits
- When more than 40,000 trades are in view, only every n-th trade is drawn so the chart stays fast.
- When you zoom out so far that a candle is narrower than 0.2 pixels, the trail is hidden.
- **Max Ticks in Buffer** caps how many trades are kept; the oldest are dropped first.

## Settings

Open the settings with the slider icon next to the indicator (Indicators, `F3`). Numeric settings can be swept as Step 1 / Step 2 parameters when you run a strategy.

| Setting | Type | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Color | Color | `#FFFFFF` | Line colour. |
| Opacity | Slider | `0.55` | Transparency of the line. |
| Line Width | Number | `0.7` | Line width in pixels. |
| Max Ticks in Buffer | Number | `500000` | Maximum number of trades kept in memory; older trades are removed. |

## Outputs

This indicator draws on the chart only – it has no values for Trade Setup gates or `use indicator`.
